Andrew Taylor, an english singer, songwriter and record producer, once proclaimed, that “Music is escapism, its entertainment” He shows how entertainment can take people away from reality. In addition it helps distract people from their. This quote relates to my topic because it says how entertainment can escape people from reality. My topic is about how entertainment helped people in the 1930’s therefore this quote presents that. Movies,dances/dancing and radios are some types of entertainment. Movies catches the audience attentions. Some make people laugh, but others may even make people cry. But overall people always enjoy watching them and spending there time watching movies. Going to dances, cheer many people up, they can socialize, eat, dance, and just have fun. Even dancing alone can make a person day ten times better. People love coming up with new dances and teaching others how to dance it. Lastly radios are very entertaining. Radios can inspire people and distract them. People spend up to hours just listening to radios. When people think of radios most people think of just music, but it's much more than that. There are shows, comedians, and even inspirational people.Although the 1930's was plagued with hardships entertainment allowed people to escape that.
To begin with, movies brought fasciation and inspiration to many people. In the 1930’s people were fascinated by the movies and by the glamorous lives of the families and people who starred in the films(Claudia 1).Many people in the 1930’s enjoyed watching how people lived their lives and it has inspired people to be like them. After watching these movies people saw how even with the tough times there is a way to be successful. They used the people who starred in the films as inspiration and helped them keep going through the difficult times. The 30’s was also the start of the sound and color revolutions and started the further development of film genres(1). This new way how the movies were made brought more people to watch and enjoy. They loved how there was more colors and more options. From that day, more and more people came to watch movies, with the new genres and more color. They enjoyed seeing something other then black and white screens. As more people came to watch more people were inspired. Movies gave a glimpse into high society life(1). This interested a lot of people. They were curious to see how other people who were wealthy. Additionally dancing and going to dances have brought joy and got people's mind of the hard things going on. Millie overton says,”I would rather dance then eat(Claudia 2). People enjoy dancing so much that they would rather dance then eat. People in the 1930s knew that the only things you needed were a few instruments, a dance floor – sometimes permanent, sometimes temporary – and a bunch of people who wanted to have a good time(2).With these things people just loved making dances. People would come just to enjoy their time and have fun. It was so simple to start a dance because so many people would join in. The only way for them to relax and express the suppressed emotion was to dance(Alyssa 17). Therefore dancing was a big and important part in the daily life and the entertainment of people in the 1930’s it was almost like therapy and helped everyone relax. In addition Radios have brought many people a big source of entertainment in the 1930’s. Radio programs provided a source of inspiration (tukufu 1). In the 1930,s there were radios that had programs that inspired people and helped them through the struggles. It helped the understand more and be more calm and positive about the things going on. It had so many programs and so many things that would even entertain the little kids. According to the ducksters ,”People would even make time just to listen to the radio.” For example, families would often gather around the radio at night to listen to their favorite show. It as almost like a routine to listen to the radio. As technology improved radios became smaller and cheaper. Stated by the ducksters,” They became the central piece”. Overall if you went around looking in houses from the 1930’s you would most likely find a radio in every house. Everyone wanted a radio because it was so entertaining to listen t them and they were so cheap and didn't take up much space. Although the 1930’s were plagued with hardships, entertainment allowed people to escape. The people in the 1930’s were inspired and amazed by the movies created. Dancing was a big way for people to cheer up and forget about the struggles for a while. Meanwhile radios was a big way of easily entertaining the entire family. In conclusion, the 1930’s had many many struggles and was quite the challenge. It also upset and even changed peoples lives. But no one was going to stay upset 24/7 and let all this put them down. So they found ways to entertain themselves and enjoy as much as possible and not let the hardships knock them to the ground. |
