Boo Radley: Boo Radley, with a real name of Arthur Radley, was described as a scary monster-like being by all of the townsfolk. He was compared to the Gray Ghost and also could have symbolized a Mockingbird. Boo would always be around to protect the children from danger, like when Bob Ewell went after Scout and Jem to “get revenge” on Atticus. Boo sees things from a different perspective, and stays inside, which allows him to see everything and have more knowledge about the town. The quiet ones always seem to have more knowledge about things than the loud ones. Boo Radley is actually a good person, just hiding in the shadows. As Atticus stated about Boo Radley, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his
point of view...until you climb into his shoes and walk around in them.” This is when Scout realized that Boo Radley was able to see a lot more than what she saw.
Scout Finich: Scout Finch or also known as Jean Louise Finch is a 7 year old girl who is the narrator of To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout is a tomboy, although her Aunt wants her to be lady like. She doesn't understand the full implication of the things happening around her. Scout doesn't enjoy school that much, she taught herself how to read, and all the other kids still have to learn. She observes and learns as you go through the book. Scout is
a very curious girl, therefore she asks a lot of questions. Scout is presented in two ages in the book.
She starts of as a little girl, not knowing much about her father, Atticus Finch, and her community she's living
in. But, in the end of the book she goes back to her town and sees everything all over again. Then at that
moment she realizes that her town wasn't what she thought it was and that her dad was racist. In the
book, on page 40 it states,”listen Atticus, I don't have to go to school!" This shows how Scout really feels
about school. She even yells at her father because she just does not want to go to school.
Bob Ewell: Bob Ewell also known as Mr.Ewell, is a white man who is part of the lower class of whites and is very poor.
His family isn't very educated either. He is a very disrespectful man and also a liar. He accused a black man named
Tom Robinson of raping and beating his daughter, Mayella Ewell. Bob also drinks alcohol, and becomes out of control
and gets angry. This is what leads him to physically abuse people. Which he has done to his daughter and was t
he one who abused her, and not Tom Robinson. He physically abuses a few people throughout the book including,
Mayella, Atticus, and Scout. In the book on page 352 it states,”The man began moving around, as if searching
for something. I heard him groan and pull something heavy along the ground. It was slowly coming to me that there
were now four people under the tree”,then he continued to say. "I smelled stale whiskey." The man was later found
out to be Mr.Ewell. He had attacked Jem and Scout. As It says in the quote they smelled whiskey. This shows how
he was drunk when he attacked them. Later in the same section he was found dead with a knife in his stomach.
He was killed by Arthur Radley while trying to attack Atticus kids. Overall Bob Ewell was a disrespectful, violent,
and low class man.
